In San Antonio, the question isn’t just what will the kids like. It’s also what will they still want to use at 3 p.m. in July. A bounce house, a water slide, and a wet/dry combo each fit a different party. Here’s how to choose.
Quick answer
- Water slide: best for hot months, kids about 6 and up, big yards with a hose spigot and somewhere for runoff to go
- Bounce house: best for cooler months, younger kids, smaller yards, indoor or covered spaces, or anywhere water is a problem
- Combo (bounce + slide, some with a pool): best when you have mixed ages and want the option to go wet or dry
Still unsure? Pick the unit that fits your yard, water access, and youngest guests first. Then think about theme.

When a water slide wins
Choose a water slide when:
- The party is in late spring through early fall. Kids stay cool and stay on the unit longer.
- Most guests are about 6 or older. Bigger slides are built for kids who can climb and slide on their own.
- You have a working hose spigot. We provide a 25-foot water hose. If the spigot is farther than that from the slide, have your own hose ready.
- You know where the water will go. Runoff shouldn’t flood a neighbor’s yard, a flower bed, or your patio door.
- Your HOA or rental home allows water play. Check before you book.
Plan for towels, a shoe-and-phone zone away from the splash, and a shaded spot for parents.
When a bounce house wins
Choose a bounce house when:
- The party is between late fall and early spring, or it’s indoors, in a gym, or under a covered pavilion.
- Your guests are mostly toddlers and preschoolers. Look at the toddler bouncer and classic 13×13 units.
- Your yard is small or your only flat space is concrete. Bounce houses can be anchored with sandbags on hard surfaces.
- Water is a hassle: no spigot nearby, a new lawn, or a strict HOA.
Heat tip for summer bounce houses: set up in shade when you can, add a shade tent nearby, schedule the party for morning or evening, and take breaks. Vinyl in direct sun heats up fast, so check the surface with your hand before kids go in. A fan or cooler helps the adults, too.
Remember: never add water to a dry bounce house. It can damage the unit and make it slippery and unsafe.
When a combo is the best of both
A combo puts a bounce area and a slide together, and some include a pool. It’s a good fit when:
- You have mixed ages: little ones bounce while older kids slide
- The forecast is uncertain: some combos can run dry if the weather cools off (only use water on units designed for it)
- You want one unit that feels bigger without a full-size water slide footprint
Examples in our catalog include the #2 Double Slide Combo with Pools (from $199), the #18 Ninja Warrior Combo with Pool (from $229), and the #10 Ferris Wheel Double Lane Slide (from $259).
Space, power, and water checklist
Space
- Measure length and width of your flat area and add room around the unit on all sides
- Note fences, AC units, septic lids, sprinkler heads, and low branches
- Check the path from the street: gate width, steps, gravel
Power
- Every inflatable runs a blower the whole time, so you need an outlet within reach
- No outlet? Add a generator from our equipment list (commonly starting around $100)
Water (slides and wet combos)
- A spigot within reach of our 25-foot hose, or your own hose
- A runoff plan
- Towels and a dry zone
Safety basics for either choice
- Adults supervise the whole time
- Shoes, glasses, and sharp objects off
- Group kids by size
- Follow the capacity and height/weight guidelines our crew goes over at setup
- Get everyone off the unit if wind picks up or storms roll in, then call us
Every unit is cleaned with commercial vinyl cleaners, disinfected, sanitized, and inspected after each rental. See our FAQ page for more.
FAQ
Is a water slide or bounce house better for a summer birthday in San Antonio?
For most summer parties, a water slide or a wet combo keeps kids cooler and on the unit longer. A bounce house still works in summer if you set it up in shade and plan the party for the morning or evening.
Can I put water on a regular bounce house?
No. Only use water on inflatables designed for water. Adding a hose to a dry bounce house can damage it and make it slippery and unsafe.
What do I need at home for a water slide rental?
A flat area large enough for the slide plus clearance, an electrical outlet for the blower (or a generator), a hose spigot within reach of our 25-foot hose, and a plan for where the runoff water will go.
Which is better for toddlers, a bounce house or a water slide?
A toddler bouncer or a small classic bounce house is usually the better fit for toddlers. Large water slides are built for older kids who can climb and slide on their own.
How much does a bounce house or water slide cost to rent in San Antonio?
In our live catalog, bounce houses start at $129, combos run from $199 to $279, and water slides start at $199, with large slides up to $599. Your quote shows the total for your date and address.
