Parks and pavilions
- Floresville River Park. This 33-acre park sits along the San Antonio River on SH 97 West. It has two pavilions that can be rented for parties and reunions, along with picnic tables, grills, fire pits and ball fields.
- La Vernia City Park (221 San Antonio Rd.) has a pavilion, gazebo, splash pad, playscape, trails and ball fields, with rentals booked through the City’s online reservation system. Note that the posted park rules say no bounce houses without written consent from City Hall, so get that consent before you book an inflatable for the park. La Vernia Little League, the volleyball league and La Vernia Market Days get priority if they’re scheduled the same day.
- Stockdale City Park hosts most of the Watermelon Jubilee each June.
- Helton Nature Park (15662 FM 775, north of Floresville) is a San Antonio River Authority park. River Authority pavilion rules prohibit inflatables and generators, so plan tables, chairs and shade instead.
Community events worth planning around
- Floresville Peanut Festival takes place on the second full weekend in October around the Wilson County Courthouse Square, with a Kiddie Parade, Grand Parade, carnival and street dances. 2026 is the 82nd festival, October 6–10.
- Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee has been held on the third weekend of June since 1937, with a parade on Main Street, a rodeo and a carnival.
Getting to know the county
Sutherland Springs is an unincorporated community on U.S. Highway 87 at FM 539, on the old Spanish land grant of Manuel Tarín. La Vernia City Park packs in extras that are handy for party guests, including a dog park, disc golf, gaga ball pits, a story walk and a butterfly garden. Helton Nature Park also has campsites you can reserve through the River Authority.
